While I don't agree with Zimbardo's assertions, I do hope that gamers look at his research and study his data to come up with cogent counter arguments. Zimbardo isn't some ignorant dumbass like Jack Thompson who's making outrageous unsupported claims. He's a pretty well respected psychologist and he does have research, or at least statistics, to back up his claims. It would serve us ill to simply attack him without addressing any of his claims.

The point is, video game are like ANY medium of expression, consumption, or art. Like books, movies, or music there will be some that aren't necessarily "good" for you like junk food vs healthy food. And if you get addicted to any of these things, they could make your life worse. But there's nothing inherently bad about the medium itself. It's up to the designers and creators to decide what they want to put out into the world. And that's where we all have a responsibility to choose the types of games we want the world to have, through our individual choices.

Starting to have my doubts on TED

Zimbardo cites animal studies and anecdotes as proof that an entire generation of men are "Arousal Addicts." I need to make some changes to the website to allow long form news posts so that I can get into all the errors in this fucking thing. Until then, let me just leave you with a big WTF?!
